The Luangwa Safari House has been designed by the famous Neil Rocher. This beautiful private lodge is situated on Robin Pope’s Nkwali land close to the Chendeni Hills on the border of the South Luangwa National Park. It has a beautiful setting under large, shady trees directly at the river.
The wooden house has only recently been renovated and is based on 25 ancient, weathered Leadwood Trees. The castle-like entrance side with stones from the hills is truly impressive. Solid doors lead to a spacious lobby, from where you have a breathtaking view over the lagoon, which is a popular watering place of elephants and giraffe herds.
Each of the four bedrooms has a unique and individual style and has been furnished with hand-crafted, local textiles. The spacious living room stretches up two storeys and is dominated by large, comfortable sofas and a marble dining table. Among other things there is a thirty lamp metal chandelier, which has been designed by Matt Peacock. The open front of the room opens towards a large quartz-tiled terrace and a large plunge pool. From the terrace an elevated passage leads to a wooden deck, which surrounds a small group of huge ebony trees in the middle of the lagoon. There is a large, welcoming leather sofa, a swinging chair and an alfresco dining table.
You can reach the bedrooms on the first floor via wooden stairways. All bedrooms are furnished with king-sized or double beds, from where you can observe elephants already with your morning tea, if you are lucky. The bedrooms upstairs have private balconies and the two bedrooms on the ground floor a private, tiled terrace with large Morris seaters for relaxing moments.
Each of the En-suite bathrooms has an individual design, for example with copper fittings or recycled sandblasted aluminium. The house is completely independent and has its own staff, guide and vehicle that are solely there for the guests. The manager and the private chef plan the activities and the menu together with the guests.
There is a variety of activities, such as game-drives with a personal ranger and a qualified guide, bird watching, walking safaris as well as boat- or canoe-trips. After an eventful day you can enjoy a sundowner on the terrace or you sit back and observe the fascinating play of nature. The Luangwa Safari House is also suitable for families (children from the age of seven), since it offers child care and activities, which are especially tailored to children, also without the parents. The Luangwa Safari house is closed in February.
